Control Nearby Devices

I have ios 16.1 on my iPhone and ipad. When I go to Accessibility->Control Nearby Devices on my iPhone, it doesn’t find my iPad (or any other device) even though my iPad and iPhone are logged into the same iCloud account, are on the same WIFI, both have bluetooth turned on, and are right next to each other. Does anyone know what to do to get this working?

Thanks but I’m not talking about the “Switch Control” feature. In IOS 16, there is a new feature directly under Accessibility called “Control Nearby Devices”. It works differently than the old Switch Control. It’s the new Control Nearby Devices feature that I can’t get to work

Hi Joshann,

Is Switch Control enabled on both devices? You can see the full instructions for setting up Control Nearby Devices here:

"Use your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to control another device

  1. Connect your devices to the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. Sign in to iCloud with the same Apple ID on both devices.
    • If you want to control a Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences on your computer.
    • Select Accessibility. In the sidebar, choose Switch Control.
    • Check the checkbox next to "Allow platform switching to control your computer."
  1. If you haven't already, turn on Switch Control on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
  2. Use your switch to navigate the Switch Control menu. Select Device.
  3. Select Use Other Device.

  4. Select the device that you want to control, then select Connect. Now you can use the switch connected to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to control the other device."

Hey Joshann,

We'd recommend restarting both the iPhone and iPad:

Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

Restart your iPad - Apple Support

Restart your Wi-Fi network and associated devices. Contact your Internet Provider for steps.

Restarting the network and devices is a good way to make sure that the connections are good and they often resolve simple issues.

Make sure you're not using a VPN or security software on either device. These may cause issues with connections, as explained here: Check VPN (Virtual Private Network) and third-party software to help resolve network connectivity issues - Apple Support

If you continue to have this issue, then it would be best to contact Apple Support

They'll need to take it from here.

Wishing you well, take care.
