Can't download photos to my iMac from iPhone X after upgrading to iOS 16.0.2

After performing an upgrade on my iPhone X from iOS 15.7 to 16.0.2 I realized that the photos I took cannot be downloaded to my iMac PHOTOS library (running on High Sierra 10.13.6, Mid 2011).

I checked the image file format on my iPhone and turned it to Jpg, but still, it refused to download saying that the item (simple Jpg) may be in an unrecognizable format or the file may not contain valid data.

I even paid attention to that HDR images using HEIF/HEVC format may cause a problem and avoid it, by using JPEG/H.264 format.

Since I take photos daily I am lost and seek a solution. Please, advise.

Thanks for the update.

Here's some info which may help with making that needed space on your iMac:

Optimize storage space in System Information on Mac - Apple Support

Some additional things to check:

1. Finder > Downloaded > Usually this fills up with stuff that we have saved elsewhere. You may be able to delete items located here.

2. Mail app > Sent folder > You may be able to delete some, or all of this info, as emails have already been sent.

3. Finder > Recents > Is a quick way to see newly saved information > Keep in mind, if you delete from this folder, the item is also deleted from wherever it was saved to.

I contacted Apple Support by phone this morning concerning my problem. Their reps. thinks that transporting my iPhone X's photos via iCloud will enable me to see them on my iMac PHOTOS Library immediately. Until then I have to free some 60 GB of space on my heavy loaded iMac. I'll update when it is actual.
