Fix for Sleep Focus alarm not working ?

On iOS 16.0.2. iPhone 14 Pro. I have setup a sleep schedule on the iPhone Health app. On the sleep schedule I have setup a wake up alarm. The sound slider for it is set to max.

At the scheduled time, my Apple Watch thankfully plays the alarm, but my iPhone is absolutely silent.

I verified the volume settings and it’s at max. I disabled and re-enabled the alarm in the sleep schedule but still no change. I rebooted my phone and retested it. Still no change. I used the silent button on the iPhone and set it back to ring. Still no change.

My Apple Watch sounds the alarm but my phone is absolutely silent. At the time when my watch alarm is audible if I walk over to phone and unlock it, there is the usual good morning screen text and a big button to stop the alarm. But it’s absolutely silent.

My phone rings work correctly, and all alarms from the iOS clock app also work correctly. Just not the sleep focus alarms only on the iPhone.

I have extensively tested this and can confirm this is by design.

If you have your Apple Watch on your wrist and it’s turned on, then Apple will ONLY play the alarm on the watch. Irrespective of if your WiFi or Bluetooth is on.

If the Apple Watch is switched off, Apple will properly sound the alarm on the iPhone.

So the solution is to fully turn of any Apple Watch or external speaker if you want to hear the alarm on your iPhone.

Note: This is only applicable for Sleep focus schedule wake up alarms. Regular Clock alarms work as usual.
