I updated my iPhone to iOS 16 and now my 2018 Subaru Harman StarLink radio no longer launches CarPlay when connected through USB. I’ve forgotten and reloaded my phone into the radio and rebooted my phone after the ios update (twice). Really frustrating.
After trying everything in the book, I turned off my VPN connection (another user reported doing this) and that seemed to get it to work.

I have the same issue. 2019 Subaru Outback with the HK Starlink radio. Oddly enough, it will connect to my iPhone 11 running iOS 16 but when I try to connect by iPhone 12 running iOS 16 it "loads" CarPlay and recognizes that its connected but all I get is a blank screen on the infotainment. I've tried everything from restarting the phone, the infotainment system, checking the various lock/app settings in iOS16 and forgetting/reconnecting the device. No luck.
Turning the VPN off for the initial connection fixed mine in my 2020 Ascent with iPhone 12 running iOS16
