iphone 13 swollen battery

I got my iPhone 13 five months ago on contract from EE. I noticed yesterday that the screen had lifted slightly and that there was a slight smell coming from the phone, almost like nail polish. I took it into EE today to be sent off to an apple authorised repair service. While in EE they charged me £70 before the phone was even sent off and mentioned I might need to pay more if the screen needs fixing/replacing. The screen worked perfectly fine, there’s no other sign of a swollen battery apart from the lifting and slight smell. I thought this would have all been covered by warranty. Any ideas on where I can go from here?

I’ve been in touch with apple already and they just said to wait until I hear back from the apple authorised repair service, which should hopefully be tomorrow as EE do a 24 hour repair. I just hope there is some way to claim my money back if I have to pay or for the £70 I’ve already paid if it’s covered by warranty. I know it has apples limited warranty which covers hardware so hopefully I’ll be able to get somewhere with it. There is no damage at all on the phone, even EE have noted on their forms that the phone is in good condition with no scratches or dents.
