Does Apple Store charge for a clean install of MacOS Catalina on mid 2012 MacBook Pro? Hard Disk went bad so I installed a 240GB SSD and now I do not know how to install MacOS. Tried the installer via recovery but I get this 🚫symbol.
I would suggest setting up an appointment and seeing if they'll help. If they do help, in my experience anything that doesn't require a new part (and even some things that do like a keyboard cap) will be free.
It should be pretty easy to do it with Internet Recovery. I think all 2012 Unibody models would have the firmware for Internet Recovery built-in, but earlier models would usually upgrade the firmware (that enables Internet Recovery) automatically with certain OS updates. You need to hold Option-Command-R (which will pull up the latest compatible version of MacOS) while powering up. If there's a new (blank) drive, I was under the impression that Command-R will default to Internet Recovery since the standard recovery volume is on the original boot drive. One issue with Internet Recovery is that it can time out if the internet access is too slow or the user doesn't respond in time to certain prompts.
But it should be easy. Just pull up Disk Utility and format the drive, then install MacOS.

They don't really provide that service any more. You might be able to get a salesperon to help you with it, but only because they are Mac owners themselves.
Your best bet is to state your case right here on these user-to-User forums, and have Readers give you some help to get it going yourself. and afterwards, you will be smarter at it and better able to take care of the little things without having to run to the Store for every little thing.
