Safari location access permissions not persistent

I set Safari location access permissions (Safari Preferences > Websites > Location > Currently open websites & When visiting other websites) to "deny," and the permissions are reset instantly to "ask." This is true, too, of Camera, Microphone, and Screen Sharing permissions, i.e., the settings that most affect my privacy and security.

I am using macOS Monterey 12.5 and Safari 15.6 (17613.3.9.1.5).

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hey there jeffrva,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. To get started, when you say that the settings instantly change back to "Ask" is this after you close the Safari Preferences window, or after closing and reopening Safari?

To help with isolating and troubleshooting the issue further, try testing the issue in safe mode. This can help determine if the issue is caused by some software that has loaded when your Mac starts up.

For steps on how to start your MacBook in safe mode, and what to do if the issue does or doesn't occur in safe mode, check out this link here: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Best regards.
