Safari, preference, location service setting not saving

I'm running Monterey 12.6.3 which I like, so I don't really want to upgrade yet.

Safari 15.6.1

In Safari, preferences, Websites, Location, no matter what I try it won't save Allow, or deny, it just defaults back to Ask.

For example, here or Twitter.

In the window the site is listed as Ask, If I try and change it to allow, it lets me choose that, but when I close the window down, and then reopen it, it has changed back to ask.

I also wanted to choose the bottom option 'when visiting other websites' to Allow, but again, as soon as I close that window down, and then reopen it, it has defaulted back to Ask.

It doesn't seem to be saving it.

Also,as a side note on the bottom of the window, the option for Remove is greyed out, no matter what I try.

Thanks for any replies.

Hi DoogyDawg,

Does this issue persist in safe mode? This can help determine whether one of your startup items are causing the issue. You can learn how to use safe mode here:

"Start up your Mac with Apple silicon in safe mode

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Shut Down.
  2. Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. A Mac is completely shut down when the screen is black and any lights (including in the Touch Bar) are off.
  3. Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.
  4. Select a volume.
  5. Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.
  6. The computer restarts automatically. When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.

Start up your Intel-based Mac in safe mode

  1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key until you see the login window.
  2. Log in to your Mac.
  3. You might be asked to log in again.
  4. On either the first or second login window, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar."
