Mail on both iPhone and Mac errors

I really hope I can get help here :-).

A few weeks ago, all of a sudden my email accounts added in the Mail (Mac's built-in) - errored. I have both a gmail and a hotmail added. Both failed to send. I have changed nothing. I tried removing the accounts, and adding them again - nothing helped.

Today - this started happening on my iPhone as well. I started off by not wanting to send - just giving me an error + reference to check the settings. Well - is nothing prompts in the settings; how am I suppose to know what is wrong.

Again - I updated passwords online, removed the accounts, added them again.

Both my mac and Iphone have the latest updates; and now I have added the accounts again; but now it wont retrieve anything - is says it is added - but when I start the app; "Checking for mail" does goes on and on and - and erroring.

This happens without me changing a thing - any idea what is going on??

Remove your email account and set it up again

Make sure that all of your emails are there or make sure that your email is saved somewhere other than your device. On your device, go to Settings > Mail, then tap Accounts. Tap the email account that you want to remove. Tap Delete Account.

If you can't send an email on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

  1. When you make an iOS or iPadOS backup in iCloud or iTunes, it backs up your mail settings, but not your email. ...
  2. Make sure your device is connected to the Internet.
  3. Check with your email service provider to find out if there's a service outage.
