Bold text keyboard shortcut not working in Mail

Hi,

I'm not able to make text bold by using the keyboard shortcut (Cmd+B) in Mail anymore. Strangely, Italicize (Cmd+I) and Underline (Cmd+U) shortcuts work.

  • I'm using MacOS Monterey 12.3.1
  • Rich text is selected in Mail
  • It's not a font-specific issue. It just doesn't work with any font including system fonts.
  • I checked all keyboard shortcuts in Settings / Keyboard, and made sure that Cmd+B is not in use for any other task.
  • It works in other apps like Text Edit and Notes.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance!

Ozan

Hmmm...

Try a SafeBoot and test How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

Thank you for the reply leroydouglas.

I shut down and started the computer in Safe Mode, opened the Mail app, and the shortcut worked perfectly. Then I restarted and tried it again in the normal mode, but unfortunately, the problem was (and is) still there.

(By the way, B button also doesn't work. I and U work for some reason, but B does not. The only way to make the text bold is right click / Font / Bold.)
