Bold not working in Macmail and Text/edit

Hi there, I found a thread on this but with no answers as to how to solve it, I'm hoping someone has a good idea?

I can no longer use the 'bold' formatting function when composing an email - I try to click it, or use shortcut key, but nothing happens. Same in Textedit program. I've tried different fonts but still nothing. It's very frustrating! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My laptop is a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) and I'm running MacOS Monterey vs 12.0.1

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files
