MACBOOK AIR 2018 RECALL

Has anyone had issues with their logic board for the MacBook Air Retina 13in 2018? The MacBook will not turn on and the Apple store says it’s the logic board. They want to charge 500€ to replace but upon reading articles online there is a recall for this exact issue!

I don't really understand why @Apple doesn't support my case.

Can someone help me in this regard?

It's a shame that the big company APPLE uses bad Logic Boards with any Intel MBAir 2018+ due to the poor cooling system where the heatsink does not contain a heatpipe so the fan never blows any air directly over the heatsink / heatpipe.

It is not UNDERSTANDABLE that Apple does not include these situations for free repairs in MBA with ONLY 2 and a half years.

I am disappointed in them.

Many years and Apple products and I am left with this bad experience.

A great pity!!!

I could show the serial number, if it helped

While there is (or at least was) a free repair program for some 2018 MBAir Logic Board issues. However, this free repair program is only available for very specific laptops which is determined by serial number. Only an AASP can tell if the laptop qualifies for the free repair program. An AASP has very specific rules to follow and many times with the newer free repair programs the tech is at the mercy of their service portal alerting them that a specific Mac being examined qualifies for a free repair program after entering the system serial number into their service portal when providing you a repair estimate.

FYI, it is not surprising to see bad Logic Boards with any Intel MBAir 2018+ due to the poor cooling system where the heatsink does not contain a heatpipe so the fan never blows any air directly over the heatsink/heatpipe. Every tech that has opened one of the Intel MBAir 2018+ models ends up shocked and laughing at the terrible design decision here.

TLDR: Only a very small number of 2018 MBAirs qualify for the free Logic Board repair program and it is determined solely based on the system serial number.

If the Evaluation was done by Apple or Authorized Service Centre - they have the tools and diagnostic mean to determine the condition of the LogicBoard.

Will not second guess their evaluation as we do not have direct access to said machine. If one whats, take it to another Authorized Service Centre and have it evaluated again.

Apple purposely designed the laptop this way so to Apple nothing is wrong with the cooling system. The Logic Boards on the USB-C Macs can be easily damaged when using less quality third party accessories and peripherals (much more so than the older non-USB-C models) so it is impossible to say which one may apply to your failure without someone figuring out the exact component(s) on the Logic Board that have failed and even then it may be inconclusive.

The Apple of yesterday is not the same Apple of today. Repair techs did not particularly like the Retina model designs for many reasons and the current USB-C Apple laptops just continue the downward spiral of the hardware. Even macOS is devolving into a mess. I will no longer recommend an Apple computer to anyone now as I feel the current implementations of hardware & software to be absolutely awful.
