Accents on letters don't by press and hold the key

Yesterday I installed a new version of MacOS Big Sur 11.1 and the option which I use a lot because I am learning French stopped to work. When I press a letter, it is repeated multiple times instead of giving me options with various accents to select from. I have already read the thread from 2 years ago but I haven't found a solution. I checked that Key repeat is not OFF in the settings. I have French key board as an input source. I used Big Sur 11.01 previously on my MacBookAir and it all worked.
