I’ve installed my HP 8620 printer on my iMac in Printers & Scanners, but there’s no option to select “scan”. The attached photo shows this. (I’m expecting to see “Print/Scan” buttons beneath the printer name.
Any ideas how I can solve this problem?

Have you checked to see if you have the latest driver from HP? What caused it to quit scanning? If this is a new printer, I would contact HP. If nothing works, then, as noted, Image Capture will scan, but not with full features. You can also purchase the app Vue Scan, which is full featured. You can try it free to test it first.
