software update

I am trying to update my software on the mac, but everytime I do it my mac will just restart and not update. what should i do

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.15

That is almost certainly your issue. Your disk needs considerably more than 5% of its space free. Updating an operating system requires plenty of temporary storage.


I suggest not even attempting the update until you have an absolute minimum of 12GB free (10%), but you may need even more.

  • What software?
  • From what version?
  • To what version?


"on the mac" ...

  • What model?
  • What year?
  • What version of MacOS?


"my mac will just restart and not update" ...

  • How many times does the restart occur?
  • Does activity continue after the restart?
  • How do you react (what actions do you take, if any) after each restart?

I have MacBook Pro 2017 with macOS Catalina current version is 10.15.2 and I am trying to update it to 10.15.3. every time I try to do the update it will ask me to restart the computer and when I click restart the will restart but I wont get updated after the restart. no matter how many times I try it, same thing happen every time. the storage for my Mac is 120gb but i only have 6gb available, would that be the issue?
