updated os to catalina and since then i have not been able to print on my hp 1000 deskjet printer

Printers/scanners are typically the first causality in upgrading any OS.

If it is listed as AirPrint printer, delete the existing printer in

> System Preferences> Printers & Scanners, and add it again, select AirPrint.

Regarding office, you might want to check out LIbreOffice which is open source and free if you want to try an alternative.

Also, about the printer there is another option, called Gutenprint but it currently doesn't support Catalina at the moment. I thought I'd mention it.

I have a Canon Pixma MG7120. Same thing. I tried updating the drivers. My 2013 iMac is slower than molasses. I lost Office 2011. I ended up spending $2K on a new system. Good luck.
