AirPods Pro noise cancellation without music

Can I use AirPods Pro for noise cancellation, but without music or other content playing? For instance, sometimes I'd like to use them to block out noise in my office, but not have music playing.

AirPods I suppose this is more of a question for apple tech my AirPods can cancel out background noise really well so is it possible to pick out a specific noise in a room and only hear that for example if I’m in a crowded room and I want to listen to the tv or a live band without the background noise drowning it out.
