I cannot view my friends activity from my apple watch after ios 6 update

I can no longer see my friends activity on my Apple Watch after updating to iOS 6. I tap the activity app from my watch and when swiping left it says "To start sharing your activity use the activity app on your iPhone". I tried and nothing updates. So can we no longer see it from our watch with the new update? However when I go to the apple website it gives simple instructions on how to do it, but it gives this message.
