How to update iPhone 8 to iOS 26?

Your iPhone 8 was discontinued from the latest iOS updates a few years ago. As a matter of fact it didn't receive iOS 17 or 18, so as a result it won't receive iOS 26. The latest software is supported on the iPhone 11 and later.

You cannot get iOS 16, 17, or 26 on your iPhone 8. For the Phone 8, an eight-year-old model that originally ran iOS 11, iOS 16 is the end of the line.

They say that because you can’t. The iPhone 8 cannot update to iOS 17, let alone 18 or 26.

That’s because you cannot install iOS 26 on an iPhone 8. Nor can you install iOS 17 or 18. The iPhone 8 cannot update past iOS 16.*.

The processor inside the iPhone 8 is not compatible with iOS 26. The iPhone 8 can run iOS 16.....but it cannot run iOS 17, iOS 18, or iOS 26.

You need a new phone if you want to run iOS 26. An iPhone 16 or iPhone 17 would be recommended. Here is a complete list of iPhones that will work with iOS 26:

The iPhone 8 has only 2 GB of RAM. Only one of the iPhones that can run iOS 26 has as little as 3 GB of RAM, and it is the straggler. All of the others have from 4 to 8 GB of RAM. So lack of RAM would likely be one reason.

Then there is the Neural Engine. All iPhones that can run iOS 26 have at least 8 Neural Engine cores. The iPhone 8 has a rudimentary Neural Engine with only 2 cores.

As you can see......the iPhone 8 is not on the list.

Not on an iPhone 8. iOS 26 is never coming to the iPhone 8.

I don't know why people say you can't get ios 26 on older model as of iphone 8. My friend has the iphone 8 and got ios 18 and now ios26. I hate when I look up things like" does iphone 8 support ios 26," and it says "NO." it apparently does work though because it is available on my friends phone , and he doesn't have the beta he has the official ios26. So, iphone 8 as of what I know from any other phone runs ios 26 officially!
