Update Request: Incorrect ITIN Checksum in Apple Card Application
I’ve been trying to apply for the Apple Card using my ITIN instead of an SSN, in the last step, I received an error: “The SSN you entered is not in the proper format.”
I firmly believe that utilizing an ITIN as an alternative to an SSN for the purpose of applying for an Apple Card is a viable and acceptable option. Because my friends applied for an Apple Card successfully by using ITIN.
After conducting research, I have identified two articles that provide valuable insights. One is sourced from IRS(https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p1915.pdf), while the other originates from Microsoft(https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/purview/sit-defn-us-individual-taxpayer-identification-number).
These articles explain what an ITIN is.
An ITIN is a tax processing number, issued by the Internal Revenue Service, for certain resident and nonresident aliens, their spouses, and their dependents. It is a nine-digit number beginning with the number “9”, has a range of numbers from "50" to "65", "70" to "88", “90” to “92” and “94” to “99” for the fourth and fifth digits and is formatted like a SSN (i.e. 9XX-7X-XXXX).
Upon attempting to apply for the Apple Card once more by altering the fourth and fifth digits to "70", I no longer met with the error(The SSN you entered is not in the proper format).
I am certain that the checksum for the ITIN needs to be updated, as the IRS has revised the format of the ITIN. Numbers from "50" to "65" are also being acceptable.
