I design books and lately, when I receive a book in rtf format, the endnotes are gone. I can import into InCopy and they are there, but I should be able to place the rtf document into InDesign WITH the endnotes. When I simply open the rft document on my Mac, the endnotes are not there. I design books for a living so this is a real problem.

Instead of double clicking, open the Indesign app or the pages app and use file / open to open your rtf. Are the results any better with either of those?
That doesn't work. InDesign won't open any kind of word or text file.

So how exactly is it that you were planning to get the content of the rtf files into Indesign? Copy/paste?
Perhaps there is some insight about placing content into InDesign… note the RTF and Word Import options panels shown in the replies.
