I design books and lately, when I receive a book in rtf format, the endnotes are gone. I can import into InCopy and they are there, but I should be able to place the rtf document into InDesign WITH the endnotes. When I simply open the rft document on my Mac, the endnotes are not there. I design books for a living so this is a real problem.

If not Pages, what application allows you to produce an RTF file with endnotes intact? Can you export the Pages content to PDF, and use Adobe Acrobat to open and convert the PDF to RTF with endnotes intact?
No Apple employees participate in these user-supported, public communities, and your fellow users cannot fix issues with internal Pages translation on export to RTF. You will need to send direct feedback to the Pages product team from the application, or choose another word-processing tool that retains endnotes with RTF documents.

It is a whole 400 page book so a PDF is out of the question. And I am not using Pages, but InDesign. When I simply open it as a rtf, the endnotes are not there. When I open with InCopy, they are there but are at the beginning, not the end.
I don't think you know how to help me. As I said, I have designed hundreds of books. The only way to place text in InDesign without loosing formatting is to use the Place option. You would have known that InDesign can't open a text file. Please lets end this discussion right now. I don't believe it is a software issue. I think it is an apple system issue...my system is too current for the person sending the file. Thanks for your efforts.
Viking is very good at helping. However, your question has nothing to do with Pages (for Mac or iOS/iPadOS) and that is the focus of this forum. With any software related problem, it is best to start with the support options offered by the company that wrote/released the software. Another possibility is to "Google" for independent online groups. Viking gave you a link to an answer in Adobe's InDesign forum.

My own guess is that your problem has nothing at all to do with Apple and you should have also asked in the Adobe forum which VikingOSX gave you the link to.
