Logic Pro - flex time mutes my track audio anytime I make an edit

Anytime I try to use flex time (I'm using flex time polyphonic in this example) the audio instantly mutes as soon as I make any edit, and not just the section that has been greyed out showing the edit, but the entire track mutes while flex time is turned on. I've tried removing the tempo information from the region, writing the region tempo to project, bouncing in place and trying flex on the new track, and I haven't been able to get anything to work. Any suggestions?

In the images below I've retraced my steps-

In this image, I haven't turned on flex time for the track, and the audio works:

In this image, I've turned on flex time, and the audio still works:

In this image, I've made a tiny edit, and now the audio won't play at all for this track, not even in the unedited portions:

In this image, I've just done command-z, and the audio plays again normally everywhere:

Well, I seem to have gotten it working through some convoluted process, although I still don't know why this is the case.

I had suspected originally that surround vs stereo audio might have something to do with it, but I tried numerous tests with audio files in both formats and nothing worked. This time around my sequence went like this:

  • Import audio file
  • remove tempo information
  • change output to stereo
  • bounce audio in place

Et voila... Now it's working again on the new BIP audio file. Someone smarter than me might be able to explain why this is the case, but maybe my frustrations can help someone else.
