What should I do if Apple says my trade-in box was empty?

Has anyone had anything similar?

im extremely frustrated!

I sent back my phone via trade in and Apple have received an empty box. I don’t have a receipt as it went into a post box but have proof that it was delivered to them.

what do I do in this instance? I don’t understand the logic behind Apple thinking I’d send an empty box and risk owing them £300?!

I will be contacting Royal Mail in the morning but I’m at a loss and very irritated now!

any advice welcome
