I know this was covered by old posts, but most often they suggested unchecking the tune you want to delete, then syncing.
The problem? My iPhone 3GS does not show the check marks !
I use it at the gym and would like to update with fresh tunes and delete old ones. Help!

You would see the check marks on the computer that you were syncing the iPhone against. (E.g., in iTunes on Macs running Mojave or earlier; or in Finder on Macs running Catalina or later.)
Each synchronization will completely replace all of the music on the iPhone with the new selection of music from the computer.

I can see where I went wrong .
I have a huge iTunes library on my Mac so it seems I should do a "factory reset" on my old phone which would clear everything, and drag in the tunes that I want.
How can I delete songs on my iPhone 3GS?
