Why is Siri no longer providing verbose responses?

When I ask Sire questions like "what is the equivalent to 200F in C", or "what is $200 worth in sterling". I used to get nice verbose responses, useful as often I was asking verbally as I was not in a position to start using my device (hands in the cooking or simialr). Now, for any and every question I ask, I get "I have found this on the web" or "I sent the answers to you iphone". If I wanted answers there I would have asked there. It is really crap and Alexa (now neatly beside my HomePod, gives me verbose answers immediately. I have looked at 100s blogs and topics, they refer me to settings that dont exists.

Iphone SW version is 18.4.1

I dont know the HomePod SW version, Siri simply says the HomePod is offline, Sorry Cant Help you with that!!!!!!!

I am guessing I am not smart enough to use smart devices.

I should add I am not a tech novice (I have more than 30 Apple devices a SmartHome all run from HomePod, a home media server, etc, all which I set up myself), I tried all the usual restarts, reset, SW upgrades. All devices state they are using most up to date

Apart from enabling or otherwise Automatic Updates HomePod appears to have no other settings around this.

What troubleshooting you've already done is always a good thing to include in the initial post.
