How do I fix iPhone 7 haptics not working during calls?

Hi, So my iPhone 7 (secondary phone)'s haptic system just stops working, like stops responding if someonr calls or a app using the haptic system rapidly. I have found a solution by entering into Silent mode and pressing the power and volume down button, but sometimes that doesnt work.

Does anyone have a solution? If you don't understand just ask me more im bad at explaining. 😅

You're doing fine explaining! Based on what you've described, it sounds like your iPhone 7's Taptic Engine (the vibration/haptic motor) is glitching—specifically when:

  • You receive calls or haptic-heavy app activity
  • The engine stops responding
  • You temporarily fix it by toggling silent mode and doing a force restart (Power + Volume Down), but it's inconsistent

Here are a few possible causes and steps to try:

✅ Basic Troubleshooting

  1. iOS Update: Make sure your iPhone 7 is running the latest version of iOS it supports (likely iOS 15.x). Some haptic bugs have been fixed in updates.
  2. Reset All Settings:
    • Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings.
    • This won’t delete your data, but will reset preferences (like Wi-Fi passwords, display settings).
  1. Check Haptic Settings:
    • Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics and make sure System Haptics is enabled.
    • Under Vibrate on Ring/Silent, toggle both off, then on again.

🔍 Deeper Checks

  1. Diagnostics Test (Optional but helpful):
    • Use Apple’s Support App or go to getsupport.apple.com, schedule a chat or call, and request a remote diagnostic—they can test the Taptic Engine remotely.
  1. Check for App Conflicts:
    • Do you notice this issue with specific apps (e.g., WhatsApp, Telegram, etc.)? Some apps might call the haptics excessively or crash it.
    • Try deleting any app that triggers the issue and see if it helps.

🔧 Hardware-Related Possibilities

  • The Taptic Engine itself may be failing or loose connection (common in older iPhone 7 units).
  • If the phone was dropped or had water damage, the connection may be spotty—especially since it's intermittent.
  • If you’re tech-savvy or willing, a local repair shop can reseat or test the Taptic Engine. Replacing it is relatively inexpensive for older phones.
