I received a text that that my Apple iCloud id was recently used at an apple store in CA. An amount was given by apple pay pre authorization. I am given a phone number to call, which I have not done. I have never used apple pay and don't know if it is activated on my phone. I am suspicious of the text. How can I determine if in fact my apple pay has been used and if it is activated? Thomas

This is a scam. Do not call the number as the scammers are looking for your credentials and financial information. Apple does NOT send such texts to users.
In addition Apple Pay is not a payment system. To use Apple Pay tap-to-pay technology you must add credit/debit cards to your Wallet app. Any transaction would be between the merchant and your bank or credit card issuer, not Apple.

“Don't answer suspicious phone calls or messages claiming to be from Apple. Instead, contact Apple directly through our official support channels.”
”To report a suspicious SMS text message that looks like it's supposed to be from Apple, take a screenshot of the message and email the screenshot to reportphishing@apple.com.”
You can report phishing at these links and most importantly your local law enforcement.

Thanks for the comments I received about a text I got that my apple pay was used. All those commenting confirmed it was a scam. I deleted the text and reported it a junk to Apple. Thomas
