Why do i get a notification that music is running in safe mode on my MacBook pro?

Hello. Tried to find an answer online and on this forum, to no avail.

Other than that, no other problem that I know of.

It happens randomly, can't put a finger on exactly when.

Following, an EtreCheck report

Thanks in advance.

Thank you turingtest.

You might be onto something.

I never launch Music with option+cmd (sometimes just with option if I want to start with a different library).

But what I do: I use Keyboard Maestro app to launch most of my apps. The trigger I use to invoke an app is option+cmd+O (then I choose the app or just press "M" in the music example).

What I'll do:

1- I will change the trigger so it won't have the option+cmd in it. After a while (week or two).

2- Launch the Music app right from clicking on its icon in the dock.

If it doesn't happen for 2 or 3 weeks of either we know that you solved the problem.

I will be back to update after that time.

Thank you again.

Hi,

Hi,

How do you launch the music app?

This is the instructions to open music app in safe mode:

  1. Start up: Turn on or restart your Mac.
  2. Press Shift key: Immediately press and hold the Shift key until you see the login window.
  3. Select Continue in Safe Mode: Click Continue in Safe Mode.
  4. Open music app: Launch your music app as you normally would.

I suggest that you follow these instructions to open music app then close and relaunch music app without holding the shift key. Does this solve your problem?

Hi,

I thought your original query was clear. I find it strange that your computer is randomly going into safe mode. Safe mode is activated by selecting shift key when launching music app.

I was suggesting that you specifically select safe mode which usually corrects anomalies that can can occur.

I find it odd that the music app randomly goes into safe mode. Possibly someone else may be able to throw sum light on this issue.

That's not the usual EtreCheck report intended for posting. It’s not formatted for posting here, which would be expected of the usual EtreCheck report.

I see various kernel extensions loaded, as well as what looks to be an app from a vendor that provides add-on cleaner apps.

Apple Music (and iTunes before it) will use its own local Safe Mode when plugins are misbehaving.

Potential causes can be add-on cleaner apps, add-on anti-malware apps, and tweaks and extensions, and there seem to be a selection of those installed here. Or potentially something like the keyboard app mentioned above.

I'm sorry, Mr. Hoffman, but there are some things I don't understand... 🤔

"That's not the usual EtreCheck report meant for posting." Could you please tell me what a normal report looks like and how I can post it?

"I see various kernel extensions loaded" . I tried to read the report, as well as checking the web to see what those do. I know that those could be dangerous for security. So:

1-Is there a way for me to decide if, how, and when those kexts are installed? What should I do with them after those are installed?

2- I saw "only" one: SystemAudioRecorder.kext. Could you please tell me how to find more?

"Potential causes can be add-on cleaner apps..." As far as I know, I don't have any cleaner apps or malware protection. Please show me what you mean again?

For years, I've used the app Keyboard Maestro. Do you see any places where it could harm?

btw, all of those questions above are meant to learn more from people like you who know a lot about computers. Also, thanks ahead for that.
