Why does Universal Control frequently disconnect between M1 Mac and M4 MacBook Air?

When I am connected and working between the Mac and Macbook Air, it frequently disconnected and the Mac will not respond to a mouse and the macbook air only responds to a touch pad change. Sometime even the Air will not respond to even a touch gesture. This goes on sometimes for several minutes until it finally reconnects.

Why? I've got nothing.

As for a sort-of workaround: when it disconnects, open system settings > displays and for me at least, it re-connects.

Still very annoying and Apple has said that they're working on it to me for YEARS at this point :(

Thanks, and will try it. I suspect that it is some issue with Universal Control as you have experienced. However, this is what ChatGPT says when I ask the same question (in a checklist).
