Messages not working on Mac since upgrading to Sequoia 15.4

I updated to Mac OS 15.4 yesterday and suddenly messages won't sync with my iPhone, send, or receive messages properly. Some messages go through as text/sms instead of iMessages, most don't go through or come in at all. I thought I was able to solve the problem yesterday after repeatedly logging back into iCloud and rebooting my computer, but today the problem resurfaced.

I have already tried logging out of Messages, signing back into iCloud, disabling Private Relay, rebooting my computer, pressing "sync now", and verifying all the settings on my phone and iCloud account (including Text Message Forwarding) are correct. Nothing seems to fix it! I have looked for a Messages-specific software update in the App Store but there doesn't seem to be any.

Off-topic, I also had to disable notifications from the News app on my computer after installing the update yesterday because I am getting multiple notifications per second about news articles published last year.

I had this same issue after updating to Sequoia the other day. Unable to send any messages as iMessage.

But it's fixed now after I logged out of my iCloud account on my macbook and logged back in. The settings look a little different, as if they've been updated, and the messages are sending now as iMessage. So my hunch is that there was an issue with the OS update that glitches when the user is logged in to iMessage and it won't properly update the Messages app until you log out and log back in.

It took me a few tries to log back into my iMessage, it failed a couple times and I was worrying I had made the situation worse. But a few minutes later I tried a third time and it works fine, and now everything's working again.

I'm having the same problem and also tried rebooting my mac, signing out and back in to my icloud account, checking to make sure it's the correct and corresponding account. I made sure my settings were all good to go on my phone and on my mac.

The most I've been able to have happen is that it seems to send/receive extremely delayed texts (1-2 days after I've received them on my phone).

**TEMPORARY FIX**

Just spent 45 mins on the phone with Apple support trying to fix iMessage not syncing or sending on my Mac. After jumping through a bunch of steps (including deleting some system library files), they had me create a brand new user profile on the Mac and sign into iCloud/iMessage there. Surprisingly, everything worked perfectly under the new profile—so it seems like the issue is tied to something corrupted in my original user account. Waiting to hear back from Apple Engineering, but in the meantime, if anyone else is dealing with iMessage issues, try testing it on a new user account. Curious if anyone’s had luck fixing it without having to switch profiles completely.

Having the issue on my new MacBook Air M4, just purchased this week as well as my iMac and macMini. My iPhone works fine. Funny how it shows message fails to send but when checking on my phone it has gone. Recipients in the group all receive the message despite saying not delivered error. They are all using Android phones. This never happens when sending to an iPhone.
