How do I fix empty directories in Android VLC after macOS Ventura update?

The day before, everything was just fine - folders were found and scanned and media streamed without issue. Since Ventura has been updated, VLC reports empty directories and nothing I do solves the issue. The Android phone was not altered, changed or updated in any way.

I'd appreciate comments and/or suggestions if anyone else has suddenly had a similar issue immediately after updating macOS Ventura.

Could it be an issue with SMB?
