It would seem that the Software Engineers would be able to fix the toggle for the front camera on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. There is no reason that it should be stuck to permanently reverse the image on all front facing selfies. Why do I have to keep going back to reverse everything?

Are you saying you're changing the setting in Settings -> Camera -> Mirror Front Camera and it's not remembering?
It seems to on my phone, and can't see why it would revert on its own.
Note that the camera will always appear mirrored on screen - mostly because of the cognitive dissonance in how we see ourselves (we may be used to seeing ourselves in a mirror, not necessarily the same way others see us, and the camera view reflects that (no pun intended)). However, when you take a picture, the saved image may (or may not) be reversed, depending on the system settings.
Probably because it’s not a bug, but an issue specifically with your iPhone. Have you updated to iOS 18.3.2? Are you using a third party camera app or Apple Camera app?
Do you have any third party apps that you use to regularly use Front Facing camera? Have you updated those apps, such as Facebook, TikTok etc.?
You can fix this by turning off mirroring in the settings. Here’s how:
1. Go to Settings > Camera.
2. Find Mirror Front Camera and turn it off.
Now, your selfies should match what the camera sees instead of being flipped.
My IOS is up to date. I am not using any third party camera apps. I have tried taking the selfie with a paper that has writing. It still shows up mirrored.
I don't use Facebook for photos nor do I use TikTok. I don't use any third party photo apps.
Thank you. The camera seems to be working as intended, however, while I am taking the image with writing it is viewed as reversed. The resulting picture does turn out properly even though it appears reversed in the viewfinder.
That's intentional - and not something most people notice.
Fact is, we don't usually see ourselves as others see us. We're more used to looking at ourselves in a mirror, and what we get there is a reflected image, so that's what we expect to see when we look at ourselves in the front-facing camera... we intuitively expect it to act like a mirror, so Apple flips the image for us to stop us from flipping out (figuratively :) )
The feed from camera to screen is a live view and not very processor (and battery) intensive, but reversing the image does take more processor and graphics power and produces their byproduct, extra heat. I suspect the convenience of the reversed live image is not something Apple will implement soon.
