Logic Pro – “Relocate Sound Library” Greyed Out on External SSD (APFS)
I am experiencing a persistent issue with Logic Pro on macOS 15.3.1 where the “Relocate Sound Library” option remains greyed out despite meeting all system requirements.
Issue Details:
• I am using an APFS (non-case-sensitive) formatted external SSD with ample storage.
• Logic Pro recognizes the SSD in the Relocate Sound Library menu, but it is permanently greyed out.
• The Sound Library is still downloading to the internal drive, despite attempts to redirect it to the SSD.
Troubleshooting Steps Taken (None Worked):
✅ Reformatted SSD to APFS (non-case-sensitive).
✅ Manually created the required directory structure (/Library/Application Support/Logic/Audio).
✅ Used defaults write com.apple.logic10 SoundLibraryLocation to set the correct SSD path.
✅ Verified permissions and ownership of all relevant folders (chmod 777).
✅ Reset Logic Pro preferences (defaults delete com.apple.logic10).
✅ Deleted and manually reinstalled all sound content.
✅ Restarted multiple times, tested on different Logic Pro installs.
Expected Behavior:
I should be able to select my external SSD and relocate the Sound Library.
Actual Behavior:
• Logic Pro detects the external SSD, but Relocate Sound Library remains greyed out.
• Files continue to install on the internal drive, ignoring the set SoundLibraryLocation path.
• No official Apple documentation states any recent removal of this feature.
Request:
• Is this a known issue in macOS Sonoma / Logic Pro 11.1.2?
• Has Apple disabled external Sound Library relocation in a recent update?
• If so, is there an alternative method to move the Sound Library to an external drive?
This issue is affecting my workflow, as I have limited internal storage and need to store Logic Pro’s Sound Library externally. I appreciate any official guidance or a fix for this problem.
Thank you for your time.
