Upgrading from Ventura to Sequoia: Direct or via Sonoma?

Is it better to upgrade from Ventura to Sonoma and then to Sequoia? Or go directly to Sequoia?

Also, since I'm not techy and justifiably fearful of using Time Machine, is synching with iCloud decent for backup before upgrades?

how to use the icloud drive as a backup drive I would like to either backup my macbook to my icloud drive or back up the icloud drive to a portable drive for redundancy in case i cannot connect to the internet.

The only things I might guarantee would be death and taxes

TM Backup is not infallible but far better than waking the tight rope without a Safety Net

Well, thankfully I never read those because I boot a Sequoia clone using SuperDuper! on my iMac Pro as a test bed for betas. 🤣

Thanks again for your responses. It looks like the easiest OS back up plan would be to use Time Machine despite the time-consuming learning curve for me. (Thanks for the link to instructions, PRP_51)
