Big Sur to Monterey Upgrade

Hi.

I tried to upgrade from Big Sur 11.7.10 to Monterey via my macmini Late 2014 but it didnt go through. The upload just stopped. Then I had difficulty to shutdown or restart...I eventually have to shutdown via pressing the power button. Been doing so for the past 2 months.

Recently I read that I can download Monterey via safe mode. I tried and it worked. Now, when I try to install Monterey via Macintosh HD, it says 'Volume can't be downgraded'.

Not sure what to do now. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

This is the screen shot if I try to install via Macintosh HD..this is both via safemode and the normal mode. Thanks

Makes sense....because I did download Monterey a few months ago but it just dissapeared and couldn't be found...am blaming Alien Abduction for this!!
