Missed calls when my phone is off

When I turn my phone off at night, why don’t I get a notice that I have missed calls when somebody has called me, when I turn my phone on., even if they didn’t leave a message?

Because the phone can not log a call if it is powered completely off.

Why are you turning it off at all? Plug it in and let it charge at night. If you don’t want to be bothered with calls, messages, and notifications, use the focus feature to select what is and isn’t allowed through.

Adding to KiltedTim’s response …

This is true for my cellular carrier (AT&T). I think but am not certain it’s true in general.

When my iPhone is turned off, if someone calls me, they immediately are sent to voicemail. They do not even hear a ring. So it’s almost as if there was no missed call, as there was no “call”. There was a cancelled voicemail.

Here’s an update:

Your inquiry caused me to try calling my iPhone number with my iPhone turned off last night and I cancelled the call before leaving a voicemail.

Not only did the iPhone not record the call, as we all established above, but I checked my cellular carrier’s (AT&T) records and the “call” is not logged there either! It really was not a call.
