How to resolve calendar invite issues and email loading delays after iOS 18.3 upgrade?

After upgrading my iPhone13 to 18.3 I have had many problems getting email calendar invites to get added to the calendar. I have upgraded to the latest IOS 18.3.1 and the issues persist.

My husband and daughter, both on newer iPhones, send me invites and when I try to add them to the calendar they either go through the motions when I click on the iCal.ics file and does not actually add it or it adds it on the calendar with a from email address of big-long-string@imip.me.com. Neither my husband or daughter have this issue on their phones the "invitation from" on their calendar invite shows the normal @comcast.net address. My husband also commented that his invites just show in calendar to be accepted or denied. Mine never have even before the upgrade.

2nd weirdness is with invites from google.. Example, the date for the invite is for Feb 28th, but when I click the invite.ics to add, it comes up with a different date/invite subject and the ONLY option I have is to delete the event, not add it.

Lastly since the upgrade it seems to me that I get a very long lag when opening certain emails and get the little spinning wheel while it tries to load the message content.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I’ve been doing some googling around on the web and it’s crystal clear that there are real problems associated with event invitation, and management following the botched iOS 18.3 upgrade.

Apple documentation makes it clear that users may choose to receive event invitations either via email or in app notifications. When I select Email I receive an ICS file, but I’m unable to add that event to my calendar. In addition, although SIRI  shows the event, it doesn’t provide any option to add the event to the calendar. This is quite clearly a bug. However, should you choose to use in app notifications then you you are able to add the event to your calendar. The only issue with this approach is that the inbox calendar is always selected even when you’ve specified in iCloud that your default calendar should be your home calendar. This is also a bug.

Slightly tangentially there is an issue with updating iCloud. Apple make it clear, and it’s perfectly understandable, that you should use either a tablet or a laptop if you wish to update iCloud and that you cannot do so using your phone. However, I was unable to update iCloud properly using my iPad. There is a missing close button in the update panel. This is also a bug. Highly amusingly I was able to update iCloud using a Microsoft laptop.

It’s very disappointing, indeed that the richest company in the world with almost unlimited resources that sells a premium product at a premium price should produce such a botched upgrade. If a fraction of the money that has been squandered on juvenile junk like emojis had  been allocated to this upgrade, I doubt any of these problems would’ve occurred.
