How do I customise autocorrect for specific language settings on my iPhone 14 Pro

Hi

I write a lot in all the Scandinavian languages, Norwegian, Swedish and Danish, and also sometimes in Icelandic. But this concern is about the first three languages. I have 5 languages activated in my phone, all the above plus English. They used to, up until a few months ago, to have their separate dictionaries, at least Swedish and Danish, but then they combined the phones main language (Norwegian) with the other ones, so now you have Norwegian and Swedish, Norwegian and English, Norwegian and Danish etc. And it is a total catastrophe! I’m almost fluent in Danish and Swedish, but I really like to have the spelling help when I write in those languages. Danish and Norwegian are 97% the same when written, and those few spelling differences are good to get some help with. Swedish and Norwegian are a little further apart, but still with most of the words in common. But now the autocorrect doesn’t know which language you are writing in, and offers no help. I haven’t found any way to turn off this feature and to only have one language at a time. Is it possible? This new solution is total crap, and whoever came up with this bright idea knows nothing about language in general. The only exception here in Norwegian and English. That works fine because it’s two completely different languages.

It should be no problem to go back to monolingual keyboards if the new bilingual ones do not work the way you want. See if this note helps. Let us know how it goes (some users have found that even monolingual autocorrect has gotten worse in ios18).

Generalizing Autocorrect features without providing specific examples of incorrect corrections made by an iPhone can be challenging because Autocorrect is designed to work contextually rather than solely on individual words.

Autocorrect uses machine learning and language models to analyze the context of a sentence before making corrections. This means that it doesn't just replace misspelled words with their closest dictionary matches; instead, it attempts to predict the intended meaning based on sentence structure, common phrases, and user typing patterns.

For example, if you type "I an going to the store," Autocorrect is likely to change "an" to "am" because "I an" is not a common phrase, while "I am" makes grammatical sense. Similarly, if you type "Their going to the park," it may correct "Their" to "They're" based on the sentence's context.

However, this context-aware approach can sometimes lead to incorrect corrections if the system misinterprets intent. For instance, if you frequently use slang, abbreviations, or non-standard spellings, Autocorrect may try to "fix" them in ways that don’t align with your intended meaning. Additionally, if a word is valid in multiple contexts (e.g., "its" vs. "it's"), Autocorrect may choose the wrong one based on its prediction model.

Thus, while Autocorrect is generally useful, its effectiveness depends on both the accuracy of Apple's language model and the specific way an individual types.

Autocorrect makes sense and is mostly useful when you're writing in one language. This is not the issue here. I cannot choose only Norwegian or only Danish, they are both active at the same time. Considering that these two languages share almost all words, but still with slightly different spelling, the iPhone has noe clue of which language you are writing in and autocorrection works thereafter...
