Logic is recording punch ins at half tempo

In the middle of a guitar overdub session Logic started recording audio at half the tempo set for the session. The only related change I’d slowed the tempo significantly 5 minutes earlier to listen to a particular articulation more clearly. But tempo was set back to original before any more recording was done. Finally opened a new track, punched in the part without a problem and then pasted it back to the first track where it played normally.

And a related issue: A little later I imported several WAV files into the same session (each one to its own new track) and they also played at half speed. The work-around: I opened a completely new session, imported the WAVs (they played normally) then copied and pasted back to the original session into the same tracks I created before and they played without any problem.

Have had lots of ghosts in my machine in the past but this one seems particularly spooky. What’s going on?

Yes depending on your Export Settings.

To export audio with effects (FX) in Logic Pro, when exporting tracks as audio files, ensure you do not select "Bypass Effect Plug-ins" in the export settings, which will allow all applied effects to be included in the exported audio; additionally, you can adjust options like "Include Audio Tail" to capture the full effect tails from reverbs and delays, and "Include Volume/Pan Automation" to export any automation applied to the tracks.

Key points to remember when exporting with FX in Logic Pro:

  • Access export settings: Go to "File" > "Export" > "All Tracks as Audio Files" to access the export options.
  • "Bypass Effect Plug-ins": Leave this option unchecked to export with all effects applied.
  • "Include Audio Tail": Check this option if you want to capture the full tail of effects like reverb at the end of the audio.
  • "Include Volume/Pan Automation": Check this to include any volume and pan automation applied to the tracks during export.
  • "Save Format": Select the desired audio file format (e.g., WAV, AIFF).
  • "Range": Choose whether to export the entire project or just a specific cycle range.
