Optimized charging is not working on my iPhone after iOS 18.3 update

Hey guys - I set my iPhone battery to charge only to 80% and after the latest iOS 18.3 update it is now exceeding that percentage despite the settings remaining the same. It’s really frustrating - and of course the battery % has dropped another % which is always the way after another software update. Apple can you please fix the optimised charging error as I do not want my phone charging over 80%

What was the last iOS version where the optimize charging issue wasn't there? Did it start after the iOS 18.3 update?

Old posts:

Therefore, this suggests that certain device settings need adjustment before attributing the issue to iOS.

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

Was/Is your device Jailbroken? If that's the situation, please be informed that attributing the issues to iOS updates may not be accurate.

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

It is normal for your iPhone to charge occasionally to 100%. You iPhone automatically does this so it can recalibrate the charging algorithm so it knows what 100% is.

>>If you have Charge Limit set to less than 100 percent, your iPhone will occasionally charge to 100 percent to maintain accurate battery state-of-charge estimates.<<

It goes on to state that it also will stop charging slightly below or above the set limit occasionally. Again, that’s normal and expected behavior.

No matter where you might set the Charge Limit......the battery is still going to charge to 100% occasionally. You cannot avoid this. Apple builds this in to calibrate the battery correctly. Here is what Apple says:

The only real question is how often "occasionally" might be. "Occasionally" was 3-4 times a month when I tried the Charge Limit gimmick, but some users are reporting that it only occurs for them a few times a month or less.

The battery is still going to charge to 100%......you just cannot predict when and frankly.....it does not really matter.

My advice.....forget the Charge Limit gimmicks. Set up the phone for Optimized Battery Charging. Connect the power adapter to the phone at night and leave it connected all night.....every night. This strategy has worked very well for a long time. No need to change what works well......although the Charge Limit thing did probably help to sell a few more phones.
