How to stop CarPlay from disconnecting calls after iOS update?

Wired CarPlay connection works flawlessly until I'm on a phone call. After about 10-15 seconds during a call, CarPlay randomly disconnects. I've noticed that this is new since iOS18.x. I can only connect to CarPlay via a wired connection.

Steps taken so far:

  1. Replaced cable
  2. Removed iPhone 15 Pro Max from CarPlay and re-added.
  3. Removed iPhone from Bluetooth connection from Honda accord and re-added
  4. Rebooted phone
  5. Hard rebooted phone

Hey everyone, I’ve found a solid fix for me, that I’ve tested with multiple types of calls for a few weeks now.

Unfortunately it may depend on the make of your vehicle and the OEM - I got the CarPlay firmware (in the car) updated from 70 to 74. I did this at the dealer, but if your car has a good online community, someone may have posted the firmware on a forum or something that you could download (at your own risk - remember you’re trusting they haven’t modified it) and install it (simpler, but also could be tricky depending on the procedure - try to follow any instructions to the letter, botched firmware updates can brick hardware).

There must be something in iOS 18 that older versions of CarPlay just doesn’t like. Good luck everyone! Please post your process/results if you try it!

My phone will disconnect multiple times during a phone call while I'm connected to car play. It usually does reconnect after about 10 seconds, but it's annoying that I have to constantly ask people to repeat what they said during that 10 seconds. The frequency of occurrence varies. This happens when connected via wireless carplay in my 2023 silverado and via wired carplay in my 2020 escalade. My sister has the same problem with her 2024 XT5 (wireless carplay). It drives me nuts! When my phone isn't plugged in to the escalade and is only connected via bluetooth, I don't lose connection. I haven't tried connecting strictly via bluetooth in the silverado because carplay is wireless and it automatically defaults to that. I've tried deleting the devices from each other and repairing with no success. I'm using an iPhone 15 Pro Max with iOS 18.3.2. My Silverado software is up to date. Escalade software is not currently up to date.

I am having the same problem with my 15pm & 2024 Lexus UX 250h. Mine connects for about 10 seconds, disconnects, reconnects. It does this through the entire call. I stopped the car in case it was a moving issue. It continues when stopped also. Making & receiving calls in the car is useless. Unless I hear the problem is fixed, I’ll not use the phone while in the car.

Same thing happening to me the last three days.

Iphone 14 pro max connected wireless with Mini Countryman C 2024.

Music and google maps work great until someone calls me or I try to make a call.

Then disconnects. It tries to reconnect but only manages to reconnect when I end the call.

What is happening? Should i visit my car dealer(I have to take a day off my work to do so cause it's in another city)

ios version 18.4.1
