CarPlay disconnects whenever I get a call or message on iPhone 15 after iOS 18 update

I have an iPhone 15. Since the last iOS 18 update, my phone frequently disconnects from my Apple CarPlay. Especially if I have an incoming message or a phone call it just disconnects and can’t reconnect. I will get a message. It says mobile device not connected or mobile device not found. I have to physically restart the car and reconnect the phone. Is anyone else having the same issue?

Having same issues! It’s not the IOS version either, it’s the newer phones! Something changed with Bluetooth it constantly crackles and cuts out and the constant CarPlay failure to connect and CarPlay disconnects started then also! If I use iPhone 12 promax absolutely zero issues. I have tried everything to fix this new cables different iPhone15 resetting the car to default and restarting connections. None of it did anything!

issue persists with iPhone 16 pro also and across iOS 17 and 18

Apple blames the car (despite the fact it works flawlessly still with iPhone 12) of course the Nissan dealership blames Apple.

its most definitely something with the hardware on the newer generation phones!

there have been articles online discussing connectivity issues with “older” cars and iPhones 15 and now also 16!

crickets from Apple on this.

I have the same issue, CarPlay disconnects while on a phone call whilst driving. I have an iPhone 15pro max. Happens regardless of whether the phone is connected wirelessly or usb. Worked fine before ios18. Contacted Apple and they have been absolutely useless and keep asking to provide the same info. Apple should do better as this is a safety issue and causes unnecessary distractions whilst driving

I’ve been having these same issues for years and it’s been across multiple vehicles, my own and others.

About my phone:

—iPhone 15 Pro

——Model A2848

——iOS 18.5

——Modem Firmware 2.60.02

——Carrier SIM 1: AT&T 64.0

——Carrier SIM 2: AT&T 64.0

About my vehicle:

—2022 Ford Super Duty

——SYNC 4

———Software Version: 24145_PRODUCT

———Revision: 1286

About other vehicles:

—2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee

—2021 Mazda 6

—2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee

—2025 Dodge Durango

Honestly, as far as I can tell, it has to be a phone issue rather than a vehicle thing. Hopefully someone can figure it out or at least identify a fix. (I have also done all the usual steps with my phone like soft and hard resets, etc. I have also had the dealership delete and reinstall SYNC4 on my truck, all to no avail.)

I’m having the same problem with my iPhone 15 Pro since iOS 18 update. My Jeep Grand Cherokee has no issue with older Apple phones. I tried forgetting and reconnecting the phone in the car, restarted the phone and the car entertainment system, and verified that my Call routing in accessibility menu was on automatic.

My 15 Pro has problems with a very short battery life and also had the noted issue where it would show connected to my home Wi-Fi but Wi-Fi would not work at all on my phone but every other connected device worked with the WiFi. I did two separate factory phone resets and wifi has worked for the last month or so but the phone quit working correctly with CarPlay. The iPhone 15 Pro is by far the worst Apple product I’ve ever owned. It’s bad enough it almost makes me want to go to android. Almost.

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

Same issue. After upgrading to 18.5 (and restarting a phone a few times just in case in would fix it) - CarPlay drops to iphone call (means iphone gets a call and not the CarPlay). Very annoying, completely replicable as it happens with every phone call. Drops usually about 10 seconds after connection. Then the call continues via iphone.

Interestingly, **Apple Maps are still operational** in every drop case, so CarPlay connectivity is not affected but only phone call.

Same happends if I call somebody using Siri via CarPlay. Call is connected than in 10 seconds in drops. Does the same with both cable and wireless connection.

by the way, my other iphone (not yet updated t0 18.5) works perfectly, which indicates IOS isue.

This drives me nuts. My best workaround is to turn my ringer off and put my phone in silent mode when I’m connected to CarPlay. It seems like the connection drops after I get an iMessage or phone call but only if my ringer is audible. If it’s silent, I don’t have connectivity issues. Like you, I have to literally turn my car off and then back on to connect again. Wired or wire-free (Bluetooth), it doesn’t matter. Happens with both! I wish they’d figure it out!
