Yeah, it’s a major issue with Apple transition into Apple Music or whatever. I’m surprised that the songs on even in the proper place as 1-3 tracks per album purchased from iTunes or NOT are using mp4 or HEVC(HEIC)? So what I have to do is 1) make sure that the track was, in fact, purchased using iTunes and not Bandcamp or ripped for example 2) back up your entire library regardless of what format the songs are in now 3) delete all the “problem” tracks from your library and change in settings under the drop down menu under Music to where you can change the music format you now have set it to (hi res lossloss, lossless, alac, aac) and change that to aac or mp3 inclusive choice offered) 4) while you’re there in settings or on the sync menu for your peripheral UNCHECK sync downloads automatically finally 5) return to the iTunes Store within Apple Music and choose “purchased items”, pick songs or albums in the next window and redownload what you purchased in whichever crappy mp3 they offered (either 128 or 320 or thereabout) that is same as you just changed in settings. Now you’ll have the altered tracks in a format that is transferable. This is assuming- obviously- that you have a lap or iMac and and iPhone or a peripheral the purchased tracks had been synced to which is, at some point, when Apple decided to reformat to either a propietary format or “higher resolution” like mp4 or HEIC. This will happen again if you sync to your iPhone as far as I can tell. So if you need the tracks in a portable format you may have to use an external drive to transfer to a turntable or amp with a usb input allowing you to connect but bypass the format change. Ideally you use a MacBook Pro and can use that as a source and run through a dac if you want or use the internal dac but your tracks will be - unless reformatted in a way that I don’t know of - in low resolution, compressed and perhaps clipped. That may not matter though, depending on volume , genre and audience I guess.
caveat: this is a pretty basic explanation for why music you bought is either in the format you and I mentioned or missing entirely from your personal library and put in iTunes purchased. I know many songs I found in that specific place weren’t even purchased via iTunes Store at all. Perhaps the Metadata was scanned and songs were indiscriminately taken and stored there so you may find some surprises. I digress, this is the basic formula. If someone has found a way to do this that is easier without loss of quality please correct or add to my pretty crude explanation. FINAL Thought: you may need to re approve the device that you are redownloading to from it use store. This is easily found under the 2nd to last drop down menu on said device, like a iMac. Hopefully you have the same username you used originally and good luck. I’m disappointed.
