Printer quality discrepancy between Canon G2469 and HP laser printer

Hi all,

more a “why” than an actual problem.

ok - Scenario - sister in 🇦🇺 emails me 🇫🇷 cryptic crosswords daily.

method 1. On iMac 2008, copy & paste from email image to Keynote. Print to Canon G2469 mega-tank printer. Output is often of mediocre quality / blurry, even at maximum quality.

method 2. Same as above but from MBPro 11.7.10. Same result.

method 3 - from an image in “Messages”. Share to my email, copy to keynote on MBP, Print to my funky old HP lazer-printer.

Result is beautifully clear read.

any ideas?

thanks.

I think the answer requires more testing.

You have three variables:

Printer: (G2469, HP)

Mac: (iMac, MBP)

Format: (Email, Messages)

Reading your description, it sounds like you've only ever printed:

Email -> [any machine] -> G2469

Messages -> MBP -> HP

At no point have you printed an emailed crossword on the HP, nor printed a Messages-based crossword on the Canon

At the very least you should print an email puzzle on the HP (via either machine, since that doesn't seem to be a factor). Then you should print a Messages-based puzzle on the Canon.

If the Messages puzzle -> Canon is blurry, then you know the problem lies with the Canon (any format, any machine => Blurry)

If the email -> HP is sharp then you know that email isn't the problem (Email => Canon = Bad, Email => HP = Good)

Off hand, I can't think why email vs. messages would make a big difference (other than Mail has an option to send images at a lower resolution to save transfer time), but the above test should highlight that.
