At NeXT World Expo 1993 a third party by the name of Pages Software, Inc. demonstrated a product called Pages by Pages on a Compaq desktop running NeXTStep 3.1. It was a fully object-oriented publishing package using Design models. If I remember correctly, with just drag and drop, one could automatically reconfigure the document to the look of a different Design model. Everything about the document was controlled by that individual Design model.
Unfortunately, that Pages has nothing to do with any Pages past or present released by Apple. The potential was certainly there until NeXTStep/OpenStep 4.2 went away.
