Google voice search not working in Google app on iPad Pro

On my iPad Pro with iPadOS 18.2.1 voice search with the Google app works normally for several searches but then is unresponsive until I restart the Google app. This has occurred many dozens of time. Initially I can see the normal response to my voice with the colored vertical bars moving as I speak, but later this is no longer seen and the search is not carried out. Once I restart the app every thing is OK until it isn't. This pattern is invariable. I deleted the Google app and reinstalled it without benefit. Google Voice search appears to work normally within Safari or Chrome.

Any help with this issue will be appreciated.
