I've just bought and set up a new Mac mini which is added to my trusted device list. But it's unhelpfully called just 'Mac mini' which is confusing as I have others. How do I rename it without deleting it first? CM

You don't have to delete it at all.
On the Mac mini go to System Settings... > General > About and edit the name there.
Then reboot.
Eventually the new name will populate the device list with the revised name.

I was donated an old MacBook Air and did a clean Monterey install to it via a bootable flash drive. Its default name was displayed in iCloud trusted devices. I then slightly changed its name via its Monterey Sharing > Computer Name (and Local Hostname as well). But it did not change in iCloud listing although I waited a few days in case a new router lease would automatically do that.
Today I booted that MacBook Air, signed OFF from iCloud, rebooted (just in case) and signed back to iCloud. THEN its new edited trusted device name was updated in the iCloud list.

To confirm what you both say, it's taken over 24hrs to be updated by Apple, but it's finally happened.
