If you ask 5 different people, you will likely get 5 different answers.
Somehow, phones went to 100% charge consistently for 15 years, and now the hot topic seems to be charge limits. If 80% is good, then 70% must be better.......correct?
Users forget that if they limit the charge to 70%, they have to charge the phone a lot more often.....which places more stress on the battery.
The difference between 80% and 85% is insignificant. Remember that the phone is still going to charge to 100% "occasionally", no matter where the charge limit might be set. Apple doesn't define how often "occasionally" might be, but it was a few times a month when I worked with charge limits for a few months to try it out.
We've seen other posts from users that report that "occasionally" was 3-4 times a month.
Personally, I charge the phone less often, so I use Optimized Battery Charging with no limit and connect the phone to the power adapter at night and leave it connected all night.....every night.
The phone charges relatively quickly to around 80% and then the battery rests for awhile, then it is very slowly trickle charged up to 100% by the time that I want to use the phone the next morning. So, I start each day at 100% and almost never have to charge the phone again during the day. There is less stress on the battery this way......the way that Apple recommended for many years.
When I tried the 80% limit, the battery rarely made it all the way through the day and early evening, so I had to charge the battery more often.......more stress on the battery, so it may actually go bad a bit faster.
If the 80% limit means that the battery will go a month or two more than it would using the 100% limit after 4 years, I could care less. But other users have different opinions. Maybe the answer is that there is really no clear and cut answer as to the "best" way to charge the battery.
If 80% is working good for you, there is probably no reason to change.....unless the battery is not going as far as you want it to before you have to charge it again.
