Does Premiere Pro 2022 Require Rosetta for Installation but Not for Running on M2 Chip? Pls HELP.

Hi everyone (first time posting here btw),

Apple Device:

Mac Studio M2 Max (Sonoma 14.5)

I’ve been grappling with a big dilemma for the past month, but I think I’ve finally found a solution. Before I celebrate, I’d like to confirm it with you.

I’m trying to install a specific version of Premiere Pro (version 2022 - 22.6). This is an older version (meaning no longer supported by Adobe direclty) but it can still be installed if someone you know has a backup and shares it with you by account-to-account method. That’s what I did — I got the installation backup I needed from my university IT administrator.

It’s worth mentioning that this version was (and still is) optimized for standalone work on Apple Silicon chips (both M1 and M2) when it was released in 2022. Premiere has been fully optimized for standalone operation without Rosetta since version 15.4.

Here’s my situation/dilemma:

When I click "Install" to start the installation process, my Mac Studio asks me to install Rosetta. I’m trying to avoid this if possible, but it seems unavoidable. This confuses me since Premiere Pro 2022 (the version I’m installing) as I said should be optimized to run natively on this machine without Rosetta.

However, in a conversation with a friend using the same version of Premiere on M2 Pro chip, he explained:

Rosetta is needed for installation, but if you don’t check (uncheck) the "Open using Rosetta" option in the Get Info menu, the software runs directly on the M processor. After installation, go to the Applications folder, locate the Premiere 2022 folder, right-click the app icon, choose Get Info, and check whether the "Open using Rosetta" option is selected. If it’s not, the program doesn’t run through Rosetta.

My question is: Is this true? If so, does it mean Rosetta maybe only required for the Install app but not for Premiere Pro 2022 itself, can that be the case actually, can it be that solution for my problem was in front of me all the time haha.

I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and I’m trying to find every way possible install this specific version of Premiere (which I need for a unique tool that was removed in later versions).

Does this finally sound like a viable solution?

Should I go ahead, install Rosetta just for the installation, uncheck "Open using Rosetta" for Premiere Pro 2022, and enjoy running it natively on the M2 chip?

This kinda makes sense to me, but I’m not entirely sure, so I’m asking for your opinion.

Thank you in advance!

Best regards : )

TL;DR

I’m installing Premiere 2022 (22.6), which should run natively on the M2 chip. The installer asks for Rosetta.

A friend says (he is using M2 Pro Mac mini):

  1. Install Rosetta just for the installer (installation of the Premiere).
  2. After installation, check if "Open using Rosetta" is unchecked in Get Info for Premiere Pro 2022.

Question: Is it possible that Rosetta is required only for installation but not for the program itself once installed?

Let me know if this solution makes sense or if I’m missing anything!

Thanks for the replay! On the screenshot I attached at the end, on the Premiere Pro 2022, in Get Info menu, there is Kind and it says (Universal), dose that mean what I think it means - that Premiere Pro 2022 actually can run natively on my Mac Studio M2 chip, because if that is true, that this is fantastic news for me! And probably that means that Rosetta is only needed for Installer...

Follow up question: How much generally using Rosetta slow down performance on Mac?
